The new way to view art at the Gallery National Art is through video podcasts, audio podcasts, audio tours, music and even online tours available as PDF (Portable Document Format) files and can be downloaded in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This is a great resource not only for research but all art lovers. Now you can visit the country’s outstanding art museum anytime.

National Gallery of Art Washington DC
The range of work available for the tours is excellent; you can find tours by artist, work of art, by a particular building, or theme. The gallery national art features American and European art from the Renaissance forward. There are big names available for the virtual art tours such as a few of my favorites: Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollack, Rembrandt, Edward Hopper, the Fauves, Still Life artwork and much more.

The Vincent Van Gogh virtual tour I took used QuickTime and it was easy. Using my browser I was able to “walk” through the museum just as if I were there and view my favorite paintings in full screen. I found the experience a great way to explore while home on a rainy day. Included in the tour was a lot of easy to read information about Van Gogh and his art. Just like the museum in real life there is too much to see in one visit.

When the museum was founded one of the intentions was to keep the admission free to all and the virtual tours are no exception. If you have an interest in American or European art the virtual tours are well worth a visit.

For the sake of clarity I notice the national museum goes by many different names. For purposes of this article I assume the meaning is the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. It is the big place located on the National Mall at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, which is bounded by Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive and by 7th and 9th Streets NW. The museum has an excellent shop for art prints, books and posters.

Here are a few terms that all seem to mean the same thing:
