Andy Warhol Prints and Posters

The Andy Warhol prints of silk screens were not the only pop art pictures made famous during that modern art era. His production style artwork of celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe along with his Brillo boxes and Campbell Soup cans were part of the pop art movement sweeping the nation in the 1960s.

Pop Art Rebels
The idea behind Pop Art (sometimes called Popart) was to rebel against the establishment of the art world but also became a part of the culture change in America that also wanted to change established systems. Other influential artists of Pop art include Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein whose giant paintings resembled comic strips.

Duchamp Shocks Art Establishment
The Pop Art movement was started by Marcel Duchamp in the 1920s. He upset customs and traditions by notoriously turning a white porcelain urinal upside down calling it a sculpture. Another of his famous Pop Art pictures was a painting of the Mona Lisa with a mustache. Modern art was never the same after Duchamp.

Parody Everyday Life
Later Pop Art artists appealed to youth by celebrating and making a parody of popular consumer culture. Andy built on all this by not only making his art mechanically using the silk screens but also by naming his studio The Factory to emphasize his intentions. His prints and posters remain some of the most popular and recognizable artworks of all art to this day.
