The Elaborate Beauty of Ancient Baroque Art

The Baroque art included beautiful architecture such as Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome and is described as dynamic, awe inspiring and exemplified by drama and grandeur in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music. The ancient art movement of baroque lasted about 150 years starting in 1600.

The changes in the Roman Catholic Church allowed for the innovations of Baroque. They wanted artists to create artwork relating to the bible clearly and realistic. Their beautiful cathedrals were meant to show the pope’s power and superiority over the Protestants. The Reformation produced new developments, not only in religion, and the Baroque style was a seen as a reaction by the Catholics to develop their own changes.
